This workshop will consist of a gentle introduction to the anatomy of a mixed model (fixed/random effects, variance components, blah blah blah,) followed by a tutorial using the R package 'lme4'. If there's time, we'll introduce a simulation-based technique called 'parametric bootstrapping', which can be very useful for hypothesis tests that involve mixed models.
The purpose of this workshop is to give an intuition for these types of models, and won't get into any of the underlying math. Please install packages 'ggplot2', 'lme4', and 'lmerTest'.

R code for the workshop is available here.

Example data is available here.
