About Blackboard

UT Austin offers Blackboard course management software to help faculty make better use of the Web in their classes. Blackboard at UT enables faculty and students to communicate and collaborate through real-time chats, threaded discussions, class e-mail, and online file exchanges.

Instructors can create and manage course Web sites without having to know HTML, and course material is easy to put up on the Web using Blackboard software. Since courses are password-protected through the use of UT EID, faculty can limit access to materials to only registered students in the course.

In addition, Blackboard offers course management options such as a gradebook where students can see only their own grades, an assignment manager tool for students to submit assignments electronically to the instructor, online test and survey tools, and course statistics so that faculty can evaluate and measure student progress.
