This guideline applies to Assistant Instructors, Lecturers, Sr. Lecturers, and all levels of Professors (even if the faculty member is teaching only one class).

Faculty should hold office hours for at least 3 hours per week at specific posted times. Office hours should not be exclusively “BY APPOINTMENT.”

Faculty may hold office hours for more than 3 posted hours per week or for 3 posted hours plus additional hours “BY APPOINTMENT.”

Faculty are asked to list their office hours and, when appropriate, those of their TAs in the syllabus for each class and on their office door.

Teaching Assistants are not required to hold posted office hours, although they often do so when it is appropriate for the class. The supervising faculty member and the TA should together make decisions about the frequency and nature of the TAs office hours.
