To be certified as having a substantial writing component, a College of Communication course must satisfy the following minimum criteria:
- Three writing activities per semester (exclusive of in-class quizzes and examinations);
- At least 16 total pages (typewritten, double-spaced) of writing, or about 4,000 words;
- Timely and detailed critiques following each writing activity; and
- Grading whereby the quality of the student's writing is an important component of the student's final course grade.
