Content owners, enlisting the support of their content contributors, are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of webpage content for their respective sections. 

Each page within the LBJ core site must:

  • Remain in alignment with the goals and targeted audience of the page and of the site as a whole
  • Be kept up-to-date in terms of accuracy and timely with regard to any dynamic content (i.e., content that changes frequently; for example, news stories, photos, events)
  • Follow all accessibility[1] guidelines, including but not limited to: 
    • Associating alt text[2] with every image
    • Using appropriate headings
    • Meet the standards established by the editorial style guide, voice and tone guidelines and LBJ brand[3]

All new pages must be approved before creation by the web content manager, alone or with consultation from the Web Steering Committee, and built by the technical web developer. These pages must then gain final approval, according to above standards, by the web content manager before publication. (This guideline does not apply to items in databases like Stories, Events, People, Grants, Publications, and Courses. Standards for these items will be detailed in other process documentation.)

 

Policy Enforcement

Where pages within the LBJ core site do not meet the above standards, or if other issues arise not included herein, the web content manager will work with the section content owner and/or relevant contributor to address. The web content manager reserves the right to approve or disapprove publishing or to implement changes in support of these standards.

If identified issues are not resolved in a timely manner, the web content manager reserves the right to take further action, including but not limited to approaching the Web Steering Committee or, in extreme cases, unpublishing the page in question.

Accessibility issues are of the utmost importance to the LBJ School, and The University of Texas guidelines require that the core site meet a certain accessibility score—assessed independently through UT. If pages are found to be in violation of accessibility standards, the web content manager will provide further training to content contributors, content owners, and others as needed on how to meet those standards.

In an effort to ensure all LBJ-related websites remain in compliance with university accessibility regulations and remain up to date on all necessary security patches and updates, the Website Steering committee—with the support of the Dean—requires all websites with an LBJ fourth-level domain (i.e., NAME.lbj.utexas.edu), or LBJ-related websites hosted on a UT server, to maintain a technical contract with the university’s IT services. Through these contract services, security and update issues will be taken care of automatically, and accessibility problems can be mitigated as needed. If any content contributor is found to be in frequent violation of core site standards, publishing permissions may be downgraded or revoked.



[1] Ensuring accessibility refers to design and development with the goal of enabling access by people with disabilities to provide them with equal access to information and functionality.

[2] Alt text is the descriptive text that screen readers will read to visually impaired users. It will also show up in the place of an image if a user has images turned off in their browser window.

[3] These standards will be detailed in forthcoming process documentation, to be drafted by the web content manager and reviewed by relevant faculty and staff members.
