The Equal Loudness Curves converge at low frequencies, which is known as the *loudness effect*. Sounds reproduced at higher or lower levels than the original will sound different: at lower levels, sounds seem to lack bass. Post production mixers can compensate by adding bass as levels of sound (particularly music) are lowered in the course of a film, and some consumer receivers attempt to do the same.
