Step-by-step Guide: Adding Data by Layers Tab

This is the easiest and most common method to add content to Map Viewer.

  1. Click Add Layer.
  2. Click the drop down Menu of My Content to chose the location of content and search by location. 
    1. My Content: Displays and enables search for only content that the User owns.  
  3. Click Browse Layer.Image Removed
  4. Chose the location of content or search location by clicking the drop down Menu of My Content.Image Removed
    1. My Content: Displays and enables search for only content that the User owns.  
    2. My Favorites: Displays and enables search for only content that the User has favorited. Users can Favorite content by selecting the star icon on the bottom left of a content items thumbnail. 
    3. My Organization: Displays and enables search for content only shared and the Organizational level.
    4. Subscription Content: Displays and enables search for content only subscripted to by the user. Most Living Atlas content is free but some require a subscription. 
    5. Living Atlas: Displays and enables search for content only in the Living Atlas which is composed by ESRI. 
    6. ArcGIS Online: Displays and enables search for all content shared at a Public level.
  5. Click the plus sign icon located at the bottom left desired content item to add to Map Viewer.

Steps Regardless of Content Type

  1. Click Add DataImage Removed on the left side panel to display options. 
  2. Select one of the options.

Steps for Browse Layers 

This is the easiest and most commonly used method to add content to Map Viewer.

    1. My Favorites: Displays and enables search for only content that the User has favorited. Users can Favorite content by selecting the star iconImage Removed on the bottom left of a content items thumbnail. 
    2. My Organization: Displays and enables search for content only shared and the Organizational level.
    3. Subscription Content: Displays and enables search for content only subscripted to by the user. Most Living Atlas content is free but some require a subscription. 
    4. Living Atlas: Displays and enables search for content only in the Living Atlas which is composed by ESRI. 
    5. ArcGIS Online: Displays and enables search for all content shared at a Public level.
  1. Click the plus sign icon located at the bottom left desired content item to add to Map Viewer.  

Steps for CSV

  1. Click CSV. Image Removed
  2. Copy and paste desired URL in the box below URL.Image Removed 
    1. Personal CSV files need to be uploaded to AGOL before adding it to Map Viewer. This creates a shareable URL.
    2. Sharable URL is found on the bottom right hand side of the Overview Page of the specific CSV. Image Removed
    3. For more information view the LIS Resource Adding Data to AGOL Content.
  3. Click Add to Map.

Steps for KML 

  1. Click KML.Image Removed
  2. Copy and paste desired URL in the box below URL. Image Removed 
    1. KML files need to be uploaded to AGOL before adding it to Map Viewer. This creates a shareable URL.
    2. Sharable URL is found on the bottom right hand side of the Overview Page of the specific KML.Image Removed

  3. Click Add to Map.

Steps for Web Serves 

  1. Click Web Service Image Removed
  2. Copy and paste desired URL in the box below URL.Image Removed
    1. Web Services need to be created before adding it to Map Viewer. This creates a shareable URL for the data.
    2. Sharable URL is found on the bottom right hand side of the Overview Page of the specific Web Services. Image Removed
    3. Web Services include Feature Layer, Imagery Layer, Elevation Layer, Map Image Layer, and Tile Layer.
  3. Click Add to Map.
