The paradigms of drama state that central characters must be active, doing, seeking, and therefore in conflict, rather than illustrative, passive or acted upon.

If the character is passive, the story becomes stagnant and boring. Character change and story values changing don't happen.

The story can reach a bottleneck. If used deliberately for artistic effect, it could be effective. But this is the exception, not the rule.
