The College of Communication TechTeam also works with backup methods already built into the Windows and MacOS operating systems, namely, Windows Backup and Time Machine.   These methods, which use a local external hard drivedrives, are built into the operating systems and can work concurrently with UTBackup.   Windows Backup and Time Machine, while not mandatory, are backup methods that aid in system recovery after catastrophic data loss. They also help end users themselves restore files after accidental data loss.

Backing up data complies with the requirements for protecting portable devices, outlined in the Information Resources Use and Security Policy, Section 5.20.    .    This policy is also highlighted in the Minimum Security Standards for Data Stewardship (PDF).  

If you have a university owned computer or know of one that is not backed up, please contact the College of Communication Technology Staff to make sure it is remedied as soon as possible.
