Below is a list of all applications that are specifically used by students at the McCombs School of Business.

A majority of the applications are software that is a freely available for students to install on their own laptops or home desktops. The applications are either freely available to anyone on the Internet or are specifically made available to students by the University or the McCombs School of Business.

The University course catalog requires students in business school courses to have a personal laptop capable of running current versions of general business software, such as Microsoft Office. Applications that are not easily installable by students due to technical or licensing reasons are made available through mCloud Apps. Applications that are used during classes or exams held in the Mod Lab are installed there.

The Reliant Productivity Center (RPC) also has computers installed in 51 of its individual study cubicles. Much of this course software is installed on those computers.

Lynda.com

As a UT student you have free access to professional online training videos from Lynda.com. Where Lynda has specific training videos on course software used at the McCombs School of Business you can find a link to those videos in the software details for that application (note: If you click on a link to a Lynda video you will need to click "Log in" at the top right hand corner of the Lynda page, and type www.utexas.edu in the "Log in through your organization or school" section). Attention Mac Users

 

Not all software available for students to install on their own notebooks is available in a Mac version. Mac users can still run this software on their own computers by using a Windows virtual machine. For more information, please visit Running MSB Student VMs in VirtualBox.

 

           

Software is available for student computers running Windows operating system
Software (or equivalent) is available for student computers running Macintosh operating system
Software must be purchased to be installed on student owned computers (available at reduced prices to current students)
Software's file type requires a Windows file system. Mac mCloud users must save files to a Windows file share such as Austin Disk Storage
Software can be saved to a local computer, but due to the number, size or complexity of files involved, we recommend all mCloud users save files to a Windows file share such as Austin Disk Storage

Cisco AnyConnect is a Virtual Private Network program that lets you establish a secure, remote network connection to the University network from off campus. It is used to connect to many systems that are accessible only to campus networks and to users connecting in using the VPN.

Cisco Packet Tracer is a network simulator that can be utilized in training for Cisco certification exams by allowing students to create networks to experience troubleshooting without having to buy real Cisco routers or switches.

The Oracle SQL Developer is the developer client software used to connect an existing Oracle database server. IROM undergraduates in certain courses just need this component. A class server is provided for these students to use. Graduate students in the MS-IROM program will also need to install their own Oracle SQL Server.

Decision Tools is a set of Microsoft excel add-ins for risk and decision analysis. It includes @Risk, StatTools, PrecisionTree, TopRank and other Excel add ins. It is a commercial product from Palisade Corporation. The McCombs School of Business has negotiated a number of licenses for student use. RStudio is a free Integrated Development Environment that provides a more graphical interface for writing R programs. RStudio includes R.
