There are several flavors of data that you can add to your map.  At the top of your new map click the drop down next to  in order to display the following options.

Search for layers

In the Search for Layers dialog box enter:

  • Find - add keywords
  • In - select the location of your data
  • Within map area - check button to exclude data outside of map area
  • Click Go button

In the results pane below the search form:

  • click item titles to see more information about the item
  • click Add to add the content to the map
  • click Done Adding Layers button when complete

Browse Living Atlas Layers

In the browse living atlas layers dialog box adjust categories or add search terms.  Click "Add layer to map" link below thumbnails and select the option to add the data to your map.  Close the dialog box to exit.

Note: you will need ESRI login credentials associated with the UT Austin account in order to access the item on ArcGIS Online.  Your portal credentials do not satisfy this.

Add Layer from Web

In the Add Layer from Web dialog box:

  • select the type of data
  • enter the URL of the item. 
  • Click the Use as Basemap option if needed
  • Click "Add Layer" button

Add Layer from File

In Add Layer from File dialog box note the file requirements and feature requirements for them. Click the "Choose File" button to browse your computer, select the file to add, and click "Import Layer" button.

Add Map Notes

Create a name for your map notes, select the template that best suites your needs, and click the "Create" button.

In the Add Features dialog box click the item you wish to add and then click on the map to add a point.  For each map note item a dialog box appears for you to add more data to your note.
