Code42 is a robust, cloud-based, backup solution. It is licensed by the University of Texas, and is intended to be the primary backup software for all university Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.


If you need to install a new instance of Code42 to backup your computer:


  1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://console.us2.crashplan.com
  2. In the "Username or email" field, enter your username in the format: <EID>@eid.utexas.edu, then click Sign In.

         

       3. At the UT Sign in screen, sign in with your EID and EID password.


          


       4. Hover your mouse over Administration, then click Downloads


            


       5. Find your correct Operating System in the list and then click the download link on the far right:


        


       6. Run the downloaded installer program. Accept all of the default settings during setup, and just click Next until it is finished.

       Note: If you are prompted to enter administrator credentials when running the installer, you will need to fill out and submit the admin access request form here: https://utexas.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cO54fLugihiOQe2 

        7. When setup finishes, Code42 will automatically run for the first time. You will be required to enter values for Username and Server address. Enter the following:

          username:  <EID>@eid.utexas.edu

          server address: clients.us2.crashplan.com


        


       8. Click Continue and you will be automatically redirected to a web browser page where you will need to sign in with your EID and EID password. Do this, then close the browser window when prompted.

       9. In the Code42 app, click the Manage button


           


       10. Ensure there is a check mark in the box next to your EID, then click Save. You are now done, and your computer is backing up automatically.


To reauthenticate with Code42:

  1. Occasionally you will need to reauthenticate with Code42.  This mainly happens when there are major Code42 updates.  
  2. Open the Code42 application on your computer (either on the program list or by clicking the icon  .  Follow the sign in instructions in steps 2-3 in the section above.   You should see the following message which verifies you have successfully reauthenticated.
