Access UpToDate

First time users

Access UpToDate from:

First time users must register with UpToDate under the University Health Services subscription. That can only be done while you are on site, wired to the local network (Ethernet).

If you are not on the local network, you will not see "University Health Services" and the "Register" button on the top right, only a "Subscribe" button.

Once you are registered, you can use any type of internet connection (Wi-Fi, mobile data) to sign in and use your UpToDate account.

Click the orange "Register" button and follow the prompts. It is recommended to use your EID as a login name. You do not have to use your EID password; it can be any password.

If your registration was successful, you should get a confirmation email from "UpToDate Customer Service".

Log in at least once every 90 days to keep your account active.

CME/CE/CPD credits

You must be signed into your UpToDate account to accrue CME/CE/CPD credit when researching clinical questions.
Note that when you access UpToDate from PNC, you are not automatically signed into your UpToDate account, but you can still search for medical terms. If you want to earn CME credits while researching clinical questions and to have full access to UpToDate, you must sign in.

How do I earn CME/CE/CPD credits?

Users can access UpToDate to earn CME/CE/CPD credits – at no additional cost – each time a clinical question is researched. You can see how many credits you have earned on the top right of the screen, next to your name (1).

How do I redeem CME/CE/CPD credits?

Click the CME button (1) next to your name to get to the CME home (2) page where you can:

  • Redeem the credits earned (3)
  • Edit the CME credit type (the default is "AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™"). Go to Settings (4) to choose a different CME credit type (such as AANP)

Credits are available to redeem for two years (5).
