One possible reason why we are able to accept visual cuts is that they approximate the types of images we see in our dreams.

Another suggestion is that we unconsciously "cut" images by blinking. Rather than constantly "panning" between subjects we blink out the unnecessary information in between to better juxtapose whatever 2 things we might be shifting our sight between. Blinking also helps us punctuate ideas and move between them in conversations.

  • "The blink is either something that helps an internal separation of thought to take place, or it is an involuntary reflex accompanying the mental separation that is taking place anyway."
