Configure Pidgin to connect to Google Talk for Google Apps?

Step-by-step guide

To configure your account:

1. Open Pidgin.
2. Click Accounts -> Manage Accounts.
3. Select desired account and choose Modify.
4. If you are not able to change the protocol you may need to delete that account and re-add it.
   
                   
   
   
5. Enter the following information in the Add Account window:
   • Protocol: Google Talk
   • Username: your email address prior to the @ symbol
   • Domain: Enter:  utexas.edu
   • Password: enter your password
   • Remember password: check if desired
   • Local Alias: Display name
   • New mail notifications: Leave box unchecked

                       

6. Click on 'Advanced' tab and enter 'talk.google.com' in the Connect Server box.

                      

   
   

7. Click Save.

   You're now ready to connect to the Google Talk service using Pidgin.
