Room Booking

CPE Roombooking can be completed online for meetings, presentations or oral defenses, including CPE 4.446 Himmelblau Library, 2.802F Conference Room, and 3.448.

Forms

Graduate Office forms, including Prelim, Annual Survey, Graduation and Checkout.

General Chemical Engineering Department forms, including reimbursement, requisition, and travel request forms.

Purchasing and Reimbursement

Contact Ben Hester bhester@che.utexas.edu 512-471-2023 or Tammy McDade mcdade@che.utexas.edu 512-471-0444 in CPE 1.450 to request access to procurement and purchasing systems.  To initiate a purchase, submit a completed Department Requisition Form with current online catalog pricing (or a quote) to Ben.  Email submission is preferred.  Additional documents may be required depending upon the amount of the purchase request, the funding used, and the pool of vendors available to fill the request.  Please do not submit purchase requests to vendors directly without prior authorization.

Fellowship students will need to have a zero-hour University Affiliate assignment created so that they can be authorized to use UT Market, the online procurement tool. Contact your group administrator or the executive assistant for assignments.

Purchasing Equipment

If the equipment you plan to purchase will require any of the items below, contact Shallaco McDonald (see the next section) before ordering.

1.)     New Electrical Power – If 220 or 480V outlets or dedicated 120V circuits will be required to power the new equipment

2.)     Exhaust -  If the equipment will require any type of ventilation, such as a snorkel, a canopy, a gas cabinet, etc.)

3.)     Heat Load – If the equipment will produce excessive heat load

4.)     Utilities – If the equipment is to be tied into domestic water, compressed air or requires a drain

5.)     Gases – If the equipment be using toxic gases, i.e., gases that require a gas cabinet

6.)     Physical Dimensions that present challenges for receiving and delivery to the laboratory – weight, special delivery requirements, elevator restrictions

7.)     General – Any equipment that requires a modification/renovation to the lab

 

After it is agreed that the equipment can be installed and operated within CPE and is purchased and installed, an inspection is recommended to insure that the installation was done completely and correctly.

Instrumentation and Machine Shop

Contact Shak McDonald smcdonald@che.utexas.edu 512-471-7867 for instrumentation and machine shop services. CPE 1.402. Shak holds drop-in hours from 1-2pm Monday – Thursday, and the shop is typically closed on weekends.

Printer, Copier, Scanner, Fax

A color printer is available for student use in the Graduate Office CPE 5.404. This machine also functions as a scanner and fax. The number for the fax machine is 512-475-7824. 

A copier designed for large jobs is located in CPE 1.450B. It requires a pass code (ask the graduate coordinator) for access.  A slower copier is located in the Graduate Office CPE 5.404.

Mail and Email

Students have individual mailboxes on the 1st floor of CPE, between the graduate student lounge and CPE 1.450. Research groups also have mailboxes in the 2nd floor mailroom. These should be checked weekly for important correspondence.

Computing

Students should contact Randy Rife randy@che.utexas.edu or Jason Barborka jason@che.utexas.edu for technical support with UT computing equipment, or if they wish to purchase new equipment or software from department funds. All students should be familiar with the Computing Best Practices.

 

Department Truck

Students wishing to use the department truck should contact Kevin Haynes CPE 1.450B haynes@che.utexas.edu or 512-471-1354 to request permission. Students must have an employment assignment, a Texas driver’s license and have completed UT Driver Training: https://financials.utexas.edu/hbp/part-19/2-utdrivers
