Overview

The University of Texas at Austin has a long history of academic excellence in business administration. The MD/MBA dual-degree program responds to an increased need for specialists with an advanced understanding of both health education and business administration. The dual-degree program will capitalize on both programs' recognized leadership in their respective fields to offer students a unique blend of health education and business expertise. Those who have combined expertise in health education and business administration will possess substantial career flexibility and attractiveness to prospective employers.

The elective component of the MBA degree is completely student-driven, affording students the opportunity to pursue a concentration in a defined functional area or to simply develop a skill-set specific to their unique interests.

Curriculum

For most DMS students, the MBA degree cannot be entirely completed within the third year. You will work with your MBA advisor to plan for when you will complete the last two MBA electives during your fourth year.

Application Instructions

This program is only for third-year Dell Medical School students who are accepted into the MBA dual degree program. In order to apply for the MD/MBA dual degree program, students must be in good academic standing at Dell Medical School.

  1. Visit the MBA Admissions website to learn about the components of the application. Dell Medical students are required to submit their professional resume, two essays, transcripts, a letter of recommendation, a $20 UT transcript fee, and the nonrefundable $200 application fee. The GMAT/GRE is waived for Dell Medical students automatically; filling out the test petition is NOT required.
  2. Begin the application at:  https://force.mccombs.utexas.edu/s/login/
  3. Complete the McCombs application no later than the Round 3 application deadline in March.
  4. Monitor your McCombs application status page for your final decision. Review decision notification deadlines here.

Note: The $2,000 tuition deposit will be waived for entering MD/MBA students. You will be required to accept your admission offer to confirm you are attending. There is a $1,200 student fee that is NOT waived for MD/MBA students, due in June. This goes toward orientation and student activities during the duration of your enrollment.

To safeguard the integrity of the admission process, Texas McCombs partners with Re Vera Services to conduct an employment and recommendation verification. If it is determined that there has been any misrepresentation in an applicant’s MBA application, McCombs reserves the right to rescind the offer of admission. There will be a required fee paid directly to Re Vera Services at a base price of $120 USD. The verification process must be completed by the deadline specified by the MBA program office, and cannot be waived for MD/MBA students.

Orientation

Required orientation activities typically begin in early August. Email MBAOrientation@mccombs.utexas.edu regarding orientation requirements and your Step 1 exam schedule. Admitted MBA students have access to the full schedule via the welcome website.

Graduation

DMS students may participate in both the Dell Med and MBA Commencement ceremonies in the spring of their fourth year.
