Essay questions are designed to allow you to give an open response questiona manually graded question on Quest assignments. These questions are not automatically graded by Quest.
You will have to manually grade the question when using it on an assignment. Submissions will not be reflected in assignment grades until you have had time to grade and upload results to Quest. Because of this, essay questions only have a Question Body and Explanation.
The question body is the main content of the question, whatever question you want to ask and the information needed to answer it should go here.
can be graded within Quest or have grades uploaded as described here: Importing Student Grades. Grades for assignments with essay questions will not be shown until the grades for the manually graded questions are provided.
The Explanation appears after the solutions viewable date has passed and the student has submitted their essay.

Once you have finished filling in the content of the question, you will see the preview on the right hand side updated with the essay prompt.
After you are finished editing publish the question with the button in the upper right hand corner for use on assignments have to save the draft by clicking the button at the bottom of the page. After you do so the option to Publish the question will appear at the top, a question is not usable on an assignment until it has been published. Publishing a question also prevents any edits.
