A learning module allows you to create a learning experience for students with assessment questions interspersed. You can use either content slides, which have no questions, or question slides.

Creating a learning module: begin by selecting "New Assignment" at the bottom of your course home page.

InstructorHomework1

Name your assignment and select the assignment type. Make sure you select an assignment type that is a learning module; this is based on how your grading scheme is set up.

Next, you have the option to copy a previously created learning module in the templates section. If you don't want to use a template, you can skip to the next section. You can copy learning modules out of any class you have instructor or importer access to. To select a learning module, you can either copy a shared learning module from your institution or select it from a specific course you have access to. There is also a check box labeled "copy options" that allows you to choose whether Quest copies the settings from the assignment you are copying.

Next, you have to set three dates for the assignment. The "Start Date" is the date when students will have access to the assignment. The "Due Date" is the last day the students will be able to submit answers on the assignment. "Solutions available" is an optional setting; it allows you to set a date for students to view correct answers with explanations to the questions on the assignment.

InstructorLm4

"Points / Question" determines how many points each question you add to the assignment will be worth; this can be edited for an individual question later. "Override default participation credit" will cancel participation credit if it is set in the grading scheme for that assignment type. "Question/Answer Layout" controls the format for question slides in the learning module. You have the option to set a time limit for students to complete the learning module; if you do use a time limit, it doesn't start counting time until the student gets past the introduction slide. You also have the ability to allow students to try different versions of a question; this will only work if multiple versions are coded into the question.

InstructorLm5

"Slide navigation" controls when a student is able to move to the next slide. The default "normal" option allows students to move freely between slides. "Must attempt question" forces the students to attempt a question before viewing the next, and "must complete question" means they must get the question correct or exhaust all of their attempts.

"Tags" allow you to add keywords to help search for the learning module to copy it later if you choose to share it.

"Test mode" hides the feedback for students until you choose to display their grades to them. If you set test mode you will also get a grades viewable date to set.

"Learning module overview" allows you to give students any additional instructions on the title slide of the module.

Learning modules have two types of slides: content and question.

To add a content slide: click the AddSlideIcon  icon. Content slides allow you to embed videos, images or text. To add a question slide: click the  AddQuesSlideIcon icon. A question slide allows you to ask students any question out of the Quest database inside of the learning module.

You can browse questions by section or search for questions based on question text, title, keywords, or the question ID. Any question you have used before or created is stored in your personal bank.

After clicking "search" or "go", a list of questions will appear at the bottom of the page. Clicking on a question name will allow you to preview that question. When you find one you would like to add, click on the blue arrow in the far right column. Once you have selected all of the questions you want to add to the assignment, click "Done adding" on the right.

Publishing an assignment: click "Publish to Class" in the left-hand menu, followed by "Publish Assignment" at the bottom of the publish page. You also have the option to generate student PDFs, giving you a printable version of the learning module. Publishing an assignment is irreversible, and once an assignmnet is published you lose the ability to make many changes - so make sure the assignment is ready prior to publishing.

As students complete the assignment, you can check on their progress and grades using the "View Submissions" link on the left. To see students' final grades, you will have to select "View answer key", followed by the "Show details" link next to class results.
