NPL is a great opportunity for staff and volunteers to learn new skills, gain valuable experience, and contribute to something that is part of the rich history of paleontology in Texas.  A days' work can have a person ranging through diverse tasks that involve every aspect of the collection - being out in the non climate-controlled collections warehouse, then back to the main lab for some time with the database, on to handling high-tech micro-photography equipment, and everything in between.

...and that is just before lunch!

This diversity is a great strength to our lab and it does require our staff and volunteers to have at least a brief familiarity with the many different aspects of working at NPL. If you have recommendations, questions or comments please contact me.

For First-day orientation, read the chapters in the 'Collections area' and 'Computer Lab' sections. 'In the Prep Lab' is required reading for advanced training with power tools and heavy equipment. You can refer back to this wiki at any point in your employment at NPL.
